Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event announced new hardware announcements, as well as the release dates for software updates. The long-awaited iPadOS 26 is finally getting ready to hit users. iPadOS 26 will be released on Monday, September 15th. Here are the details.
Significant New Features in iPadOS 26
iPadOS 26 comes with productivity-focused improvements. A Mac-like windowing system, a revamped Dock, a menu bar, a new cursor, and many other features transform the iPad into a more professional tool. In addition to the new design language called “Liquid Glass,” many new features from iOS 26 are also coming to iPads with this update.

So, which iPads will be able to run this new operating system?
- iPad Pro 13-inch (M4 and later)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later)
- iPad Air (M2 and later)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
- iPad mini (A17 Pro)
- iPad mini (5th generation and later)
- iPad (A16)
- iPad (8th generation and later)
Basically, if your iPad can run iPadOS 18, it will likely also support iPadOS 26. The only exception is the 7th-generation iPad model, which unfortunately will not receive the update.
