Fujifilm has pulled the curtain back on its newest flagship, the GFX Eterna 55, a professional cinema camera built for filmmakers who want premium image quality, expansive format options, and the signature look of analog film in digital form.
Large-format sensor powers cinematic image depth

Inside the GFX Eterna 55 is a 102 MP large-format sensor measuring 43.9 x 32.9 mm. This gives filmmakers extended dynamic range over 14 stops and access to shallow depth-of-field effects and low noise, even in dim environments.
Supported sensor modes include:
- Full-frame 4:3 Open Gate
- Super 35 DCI crop
- Anamorphic-friendly formats
Dual base ISOs at 800 and 3,200 further enhance low-light performance and flexibility in lighting.
8K video formats and resolutions for any workflow
Fujifilm’s new system supports multiple 8K recording options to suit different aspect ratios:
- 17:9 at 8192 x 4320
- 16:9 at 7680 x 4320
- 2.76:1 at 8192 x 2968
You can record in Apple ProRes 422 (HQ, LT, or base) or HEVC/H.265, at up to 720 Mbps. Storage options include SD, CFexpress Type B, or SSD, making it easy to scale for small or large productions.
Film Simulations give the GFX Eterna 55 a unique color edge
One of the standout features of this camera is its set of twenty Film Simulations, designed to replicate Fujifilm’s classic film stocks. These presets, including Velvia and Astia, help cinematographers craft unique color profiles in-camera.
For full control in post, F-Log2 C and F-Gamut C recording modes preserve maximum tonal detail for grading.
Pro-level build with hybrid autofocus and high-brightness displays
The GFX cinema camera was clearly built with on-set usability in mind. Hybrid autofocus combines phase and contrast detection and tracks subjects down to -2 EV.
Notable physical features:
- 5-inch 6.22M-dot display with 2,000 nits
- Two 3-inch side displays for live data
- Electronic ND filter from ND 0.6 to 2.1
- Shutter speeds from 1/8s to 1/8000s or 5.6° to 360°
All controls feel tailored to high-pressure production environments.
