Xiaomi unexpectedly skipped the 16 series and moved directly to the 17 series. The company confirmed the camera design of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, the top model in this new series, with an official image, revealing that the phone will feature a dual-screen display.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will stand out with its design
This confirmation emerged when Xiaomi’s official Weibo account briefly changed its profile photo to an image of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The image was quickly removed, but this “accidental” leak came shortly after the name change was announced.
The shared image features a large rectangular camera module with rounded corners. This module houses the main camera and a periscope telephoto lens. What makes this module unique is the large screen integrated above this camera island. Beneath this main module is a third camera, expected to be an ultra-wide angle, an LED flash, and the Leica logo.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a dual-screen design on a traditional “bar-style” smartphone other than a foldable phone. Xiaomi previously used a similar rear display on the Mi 11 Ultra, but that panel was much smaller.
The Xiaomi 17 series, expected to be unveiled at the end of this month, consists of three models: the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. The Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro are expected to feature 6.3-inch displays, while the 17 Pro Max will come with a 6.8-inch display. At the heart of the entire series is Qualcomm’s new flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
