Samsung is offering users flexibility in AI assistants with the One UI 8.5 update. Many platforms currently direct users to their own or contracted AI assistants. However, Samsung is changing this approach.
One UI 8.5 will offer flexibility in AI
According to information revealed about One UI 8.5, AI agents will appear on the home screen. The exact role of these agents has not yet been fully clarified, but one of them will answer user questions.

Users can choose different AI models, such as Perplexity or Samsung Gauss, for this role instead of the default Gemini model. This gives users the opportunity to experiment with different capabilities.
The selected AI model collects information about the user and provides answers of up to three sentences. More information about the new AI agents is expected to emerge as the beta phase of the update expands.
This move demonstrates Samsung’s strategy of offering users greater control and customization, rather than relying on a single model in AI. It also increases competition in the AI market, allowing users to directly compare products from different companies. This change could set an example for other manufacturers to follow suit.
