Good news about the new Model Y Performance!

Tesla is offering bi-directional charging support with the new Model Y Performance. This development has been very pleasing to users.

Tesla has officially confirmed the long-awaited bi-directional charging support for its popular electric SUV, the new Model Y Performance. With this confirmation, the vehicle now supports both Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), effectively transforming the Model Y Performance into a mobile power source.

This development marks the first time that V2L capability is being introduced to another Tesla model, the Model Y Performance, after the Cybertruck. This move signals that the technology will be expanded to other Tesla models in the future. While Tesla vehicles have previously featured bi-directional charging, this is the first time the company has officially offered this feature on a model other than the Cybertruck.

V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology uses the electric vehicle’s battery as a mobile generator. This allows the vehicle to draw power directly from its high-capacity battery to power devices like tools, camping equipment, or household appliances. The Model Y Performance delivers up to 11.5 kWh of power from its 82 kWh battery. This feature, which can provide continuous power of 3–5 kW via 120V/240V outlets, can be used with Tesla’s own adapter or third-party solutions. This feature will reportedly be enabled with an OTA update (version 2025.20 and later), scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.

The Model Y Performance also supports V2H (Vehicle-to-Home). This feature allows the vehicle to power an entire home or supplement the grid during power outages. However, V2H functionality requires a Tesla Powerwall 3 or a compatible bi-directional inverter and a special adapter.

While this feature is available for the Model Y Performance, Tesla emphasizes that the Cybertruck features the most advanced bi-directional charging technology. The Cybertruck supports higher-power loads and excels at providing backup power to a home during power outages.
