Spotify, the music and podcast platform, has introduced a new feature that will increase users’ control over its music recommendation algorithm. The platform now allows users to exclude unwanted songs from its personal recommendation algorithm.
Users’ Algorithm Control Increases
The new feature prevents a song’s listening history from influencing the platform’s future recommendation stream. This is particularly helpful for users who don’t want content considered “guilty pleasure” or content listened to on accounts used by children to distort recommendations that reflect a person’s overall musical taste. Spotify states that this feature allows for more accurate analysis of user preferences.

To perform this exclusion, users view the song they want to exclude in full screen and tap the three-dot icon. From the menu that opens, they select “Exclude track from your taste profile” to remove the song from the algorithm. It’s noteworthy that the platform hasn’t translated this option into Turkish.
This exclusion feature, previously available only for playlists, now applies to individual songs. This new control mechanism is available on both the web, desktop, and mobile apps. Furthermore, a Premium membership is not required to take advantage of this feature. Free users can also take advantage of this feature.
