According to an analyst report from investment bank Morgan Stanley, Apple is urgently planning to increase production of the upcoming iPhone 17 series. The company is expected to exceed its initial production target of 84-86 million units for 2025, reaching just over 90 million. Here are the details.
iPhone 17 Pro Leads, iPhone Air Lags
The primary reason for the production increase is attributed to Apple’s misestimation of market demand. The report states that the production increase will be largely focused on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models. Apple has realized that demand for these higher-end Pro models is much higher than anticipated.

Demand for the iPhone Air, the more affordable model in the series, fell short of expectations. This suggests that users are gravitating towards more premium features in this generation.
Morgan Stanley analysts believe that the strong demand for the iPhone 17 models is primarily coming from users of much older iPhone models. This large user group is expected to grow further next year.
This trend is expected to have a positive impact not only on the iPhone 17 series but also on future flagships. This signals strong sales performance for the next-generation iPhone 18 models. It is also expected to pave the way for the foldable iPhone (iPhone Fold), expected to launch in late 2026.
Morgan Stanley expects Apple to sell a total of 243 million iPhones next year. However, analysts add some flexibility to the forecast. If the expected foldable iPhone and Apple Intelligence features generate strong market demand, annual sales could reach as high as 270 million units.
