Sony’s film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, one of its popular video game series, is rapidly gaining traction. The script for the film, announced at the beginning of the year, has been completed, and a start date for filming and a release date have been set.
A Horizon Zero Dawn film is coming
New court documents unearthed this week reveal Sony’s roadmap for Horizon Zero Dawn. These documents, submitted to the court as part of an ongoing lawsuit between Sony and Tencent, reveal that the script is now complete.

According to the documents, Sony plans to begin filming before the end of 2026. This means that the cast, director, and other production details will be announced very soon. The company aims to release the film in 2027 after filming is complete.
Horizon Zero Dawn’s story centers on a post-apocalyptic world set in the 31st century. In this future, giant robots rule the planet, while humans live in technologically backward tribes. At the center of the story is a young warrior named Aloy.
The film adaptation is rumored to tell Aloy’s origin story, just like the first game. By releasing the film in 2027, Sony is furthering its claim to be in the video game adaptation craze.
