The Pentagon is reportedly preparing to award a massive $2 billion contract for the SpaceX Golden Dome project. According to the Wall Street Journal, this funding will be used to develop a network of hundreds of satellites capable of tracking missiles and aircraft.
How will the SpaceX Golden Dome network work?
According to reports, this new defense system will consist of approximately 600 satellites. The system will be based on a technology known as “airborne moving target indicator.” This development further expands the Elon Musk-led company’s influence in US national security efforts.

The report also stated that SpaceX is expected to take on larger roles in two secret Pentagon satellite networks beyond Golden Dome. The first will be a network called Milnet, focused on relaying sensitive military communications. The other will be a separate fleet of satellites capable of tracking ground-based vehicles.
Project History and Other Partners
The Golden Dome project is inspired by Israel’s “Iron Dome” system but aims for a much larger scale. The $2 billion fund was reportedly secretly included in a spending bill signed in July, but was not tied to a specific contractor at the time. It’s also rumored that other tech companies like Anduril Industries and Palantir Technologies may also be involved in this massive project.
