Intel has filed a lawsuit against a former employee who worked at the company for over a decade. The tech giant alleges that the employee stole data deemed “top secret.” According to OregonLive, this serious information theft is believed to stem from the company’s recent wave of layoffs.
Intel is seeking $250,000 in damages from the former employee.
The lawsuit centers on Jinfeng Luo. Luo has been employed by Intel since 2014. He was recently served with a termination notice and his employment was terminated on July 31st. During his final days at the company, Luo allegedly stole approximately 18,000 files from Intel’s internal database.

According to Intel’s allegations, Luo first attempted to download files from his work laptop to an external hard drive on July 23rd. However, the company’s internal security controls blocked this suspicious attempt. Five days later, on July 28th, Luo reportedly managed to download 18,000 files by connecting another storage device.
Following these suspicious file transfer attempts, Intel immediately launched an investigation and identified Jinfeng Luo as the perpetrator. The company formally filed a lawsuit against Luo, whom it had been trying to reach for months at his Seattle address. Intel is seeking $250,000 in damages as part of this lawsuit. It is also seeking a court order to prevent Luo from leaking this sensitive information.
The lawsuit is not yet concluded, and Jinfeng Luo has not made a statement on the matter. The fact that the stolen data is labeled “top secret” demonstrates the seriousness of the situation for Intel. What are your thoughts on the company’s internal data security measures and the potential repercussions of the layoffs?
