Xiaomi isn’t just chasing specs anymore it may be gearing up to end the digital zoom era. A fresh leak sheds light on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera, revealing a Leica-powered 200 MP zoom that looks to shift expectations in mobile photography.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra zoom camera leak reveals new specs

Leaker Digital Chat Station claims the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a 200 MP zoom camera with Leica optics. It reportedly uses a variable focal length between 70 mm and 100 mm, paired with aperture values of f/2.3 at 70 mm and f/3.0 at 100 mm. These specs suggest a periscope-style lens built inside the phone rather than a digital workaround or detachable lens.
As the focal length increases, the aperture narrows a typical tradeoff in compact optical zoom systems. Still, this setup aims to capture more detail with less digital trickery.
Triple or quad-camera? Conflicting leaks continue
Here’s where the picture blurs. A previous code leak hinted at four rear sensors, but that doesn’t match reports suggesting a single zoom lens with variable range. Some believe Xiaomi could launch two versions of the 17 Ultra. One might support an external zoom module, similar to those seen on the Oppo Find X9 Pro or Vivo X300 Pro only more advanced.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra set for early debut
The 17 Ultra has already begun certification in China. Based on past release timing, the phone could arrive in December or January. If that holds true, Xiaomi may beat rivals to the punch with one of 2025’s first premium camera phones.
Zoom hardware details from the Xiaomi 17 Ultra leak
What’s been uncovered so far:
- 200 MP optical sensor by Leica
- Variable zoom: 70 mm to 100 mm range
- f/2.3 aperture at 70 mm, f/3.0 at 100 mm
- Periscope-style internal lens design
- Triple or quad-camera layout still unconfirmed
It aims to kill digital zoom for good
If these specs stick, Xiaomi may finally ditch digital zoom gimmicks in favor of true optical innovation. A 200 MP Leica lens with physical zoom range could reshape what users expect from smartphone cameras. As always, leaked hardware may change before launch but if Xiaomi holds course, this could be a serious shake-up.
