AIdol, Russia’s first AI-powered humanoid robot, attracted widespread attention with an unfortunate accident during its debut at a major technology forum in Moscow. Immediately after beginning its walk on stage, the robot lost its balance and fell face down. The incident, captured on camera, quickly spread on social media and went viral.
Humanoid robot falls on stage
Recently taking the stage at the Yarovit Hall Congress Center, AIdol began its walk to the theme song “Gonna Fly Now,” familiar from the movie Rocky. However, after only a few steps, the robot suddenly lost its balance, toppled forward, and landed face down on the stage.
AIdol, developed by the Russian robotics company Idol, was introduced as the country’s first AI-powered humanoid robot. Capable of mimicking human movements and gestures, the robot was designed specifically to showcase Russia’s advancements in robotics.
Speaking to Newsweek, Idol CEO Vladimir Vitukhin stated that the accident was caused by a calibration error in the robot’s balance and motion control algorithms.
Vitukhin emphasized that this is a real-time learning process, saying, “A good mistake becomes knowledge, a bad mistake becomes experience.” The company announced plans to fine-tune AIdol’s control systems before its next public demonstration.
According to reports, AIdol was designed with 77 percent domestically produced components. According to CEO Vitukhin, this figure represents a significant achievement considering the limited import access due to Western sanctions. The company aims to increase this domestically produced component ratio to 93 percent in future production.
The robot’s silicone face is equipped with 19 servo motors. Thanks to these motors, the robot can display dozens of basic emotions and hundreds of micro-expressions on its surface. The robot’s synthetic skin has been specially developed to mimic the fluidity and rigidity of real human facial movements.
