X (formerly Twitter) has released its long-awaited messaging update. The platform has begun rolling out its new X Chat feature, replacing standard DMs. This new system brings significant innovations such as end-to-end encryption and video calling.
What does X Chat offer?
The new “Chat” system stands out as a key part of Elon Musk’s “everything app” vision. Unlike traditional DMs, this feature offers end-to-end encryption (E2EE) by default. Users will now be able to make voice and video calls directly from the platform.
In addition to encryption and calling features, “Chat” also offers new control tools. These include disappearing messages, editing or deleting sent messages, and screenshot notifications. The company claims the new system provides complete privacy “without ads or tracking.”
The updated messaging features have begun rolling out on iOS and web platforms under the name “Chat.” X has announced that an Android version is “coming soon.” This move makes X a stronger competitor to established messaging apps like WhatsApp and Signal.
