Qualcomm’s next-generation mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which will be officially unveiled on November 26th, has made headlines with its first comprehensive performance test results. The new processor, whose initial AnTuTu results have been released, is more powerful than expected, achieving scores close to those of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, another high-end chipset.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 tested

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 achieved a score of 3.56 million in the AnTuTu performance test. This score is only 14 percent behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s estimated score of approximately 4 million. This result suggests that Qualcomm has intentionally narrowed the performance gap between its two high-end processors.

The chipset uses the same 3nm N3P process as the Elite Gen 5, but operates at lower frequencies. Previous leaks suggested that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 would feature lower clock speeds, and the new test results confirm this information. The processor’s performance cores are reportedly operating at 3.80 GHz, while its efficiency cores are reportedly operating at 3.32 GHz. The architecture is the same 2+6-core layout as the Elite Gen 5.

The new chipset is expected to debut in the OnePlus Ace 6T. The device tested was reportedly the OnePlus Ace 6T. This device ran Android 16, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.

The current picture suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be a powerful flagship alternative for device manufacturers, focusing on cost and performance, rather than simply being a sub-option within the Elite series.
