Exciting leaks about Sony’s beefed-up console continue to emerge. Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID), a reliable hardware source, has claimed that the company is working on the PS5 Pro PSSR 2 update. According to reports, this update is much more than a simple patch; it’s a full-fledged overhaul.
What will change with PS5 Pro PSSR 2?
According to reports, Sony is completely overhauling PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. Internally known as “MFSR2” (Multi-Frame Super Resolution 2), this new version aims to improve image quality while reducing hardware load. According to developers, the new algorithm requires less input data and significantly reduces GPU processing times.

Sony is aware of the visual artifacts (PSSR artifacts) experienced in existing games and is offering studios new solutions. A new debugging tool called “PSML Replay” will make it easier for developers to identify and fix these issues. Sources indicate that Sony’s tools are more advanced than those currently offered by AMD for FSR technology.
This update will reportedly not be an automatic system-wide transition; developers will need to manually update their games with the new API. MLID likens this leap to AMD’s transition from FSR 3 to FSR 4. Sony’s goal is clear: to either catch up with FSR 4, expected next year, or surpass it entirely. The company will continue to position PSSR as its own technology, independent of FSR.
