Sony’s PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim consoles are now shipping with a never-before-seen DualSense controller. European gamers have noticed this new accessory, codenamed CFI-ZCT2W, included in console boxes.
DualSense battery life is improving
Reviews by hardware modder Modyfikator89 reveal that this controller, with its more efficient design, could offer the much-anticipated extended battery life.
According to Modyfikator89’s report, the revamped DualSense V2 controller is being bundled with the PS5 Pro (CFI-7121) and PS5 Slim (CFI-2116) revisions, which are launching in European countries in September 2025.
Other DualSense versions, such as the limited-edition Ghost of Yōtei gold edition, also use this new hardware configuration. Players can check the packaging for the CFI-ZCT2W stamp to confirm this new peripheral.
Modyfikator89 disassembled the controller and discovered that it uses the BDM-060 board. The modder believes the controller is more efficient, but not all changes are positive. It was determined that Sony removed the secondary microphone to provide increased battery life. This could affect the controller’s ability to filter out background noise, but no test results have yet emerged.
Since the launch of the PS5, poor battery life has been one of the most common complaints about the DualSense. In some cases, players needed to charge the accessory after only six hours, and unlike most Xbox controllers, the battery wasn’t easily replaceable. This new model, which extends battery life, appears to be a response to player requests.
However, the long-awaited Hall effect or TMR analog sticks appear to be missing from this new DualSense controller. It remains unclear whether the stick drift issue, which can occur as components wear down and is a problem for players, will persist.
Sony has also been quietly making other changes to its consoles. Modyfikator89 also noted that the PS5 Slim CFI-2116 model has a different cooling system, borrowed from the PS5 Pro. This change is hoped to prevent the liquid metal leakage issue that caused high temperatures in older consoles.
