Once synonymous with tiny, two-seat city cars, the Smart brand is no longer confined to the “small” playing field. With each new model being larger than the last, Smart continues this trend with its latest addition, the Smart #6 EHD. This new model, revealed through leaked images by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), demonstrates its readiness to compete aggressively in the electric family sedan segment.
Sizes Bigger, Comfort Comes
It’s truly remarkable that a brand once renowned for cars that could fit in a single parking space has launched a sedan that appears spacious enough to host a small party. The Smart #6 EHD, with a length of 4.9 meters, reaches the dimensions of a full-fledged large sedan. It measures 1.92 meters wide and 1.51 meters high. A generous 2.92-meter wheelbase promises superior comfort inside the cabin.

The new #6 boasts a modern and elegant appearance. At the front, a continuous light strip extending the width of the vehicle stands out, giving it an instantly recognizable appearance on the road. Below this strip, small air intake grilles are located on the sides and a larger grille in the lower center section.
Moving to the side profile, we notice the hidden door handles and stylish multi-spoke wheels. The rear end, thanks to the wide-span taillight and the slightly concave trunk lid, presents a both wide and muscular stance.
While the Smart #6 EHD is the brand’s first sedan, it’s not the first hybrid model. Powered by Geely’s advanced NordThor Hybrid 2.0 system, this system combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, producing a total of 320 kW (429 horsepower). This setup is identical to that used in the Smart #5 EHD, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model.
The electrical part of the hybrid system stores energy in an LFP battery supplied by suppliers SVOLT or CATL. According to official data, the battery can reach a charge from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes. While the battery capacity has not yet been disclosed, the charging speed is impressive. The curb weight varies between 1,990 kg and 2,099 kg, depending on the trim level.
Smart claims the vehicle’s pure electric range is 285 km. More importantly, according to China’s relatively optimistic CLTC test cycle, the total range extends to an impressive 1,810 km. The engine is paired with a three-speed DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) transmission and promises fuel consumption of under 4 liters per 100 kilometers.
A roof-mounted LiDAR unit indicates the vehicle will feature advanced driver assistance systems. This means the Smart #6 EHD will come equipped with the best autonomous driving aids available. In addition to its technological capabilities, users will be offered extensive customization options with different headlight and taillight designs, various brake calipers, and 19-inch or 20-inch wheel options.
