Fortnite, developed by Epic Games and one of the world’s most played games, has returned to the Android platform after a long absence. The eagerly awaited development happened today, and Fortnite is once again accessible via the Play Store.
Fortnite’s Play Store adventure begins again
In 2020, Google removed the popular game from its store for violating its in-app payment policies. Following this decision, Epic Games launched a major legal battle against the tech giant. After years of lawsuits and mutual statements, Epic Games secured its desired terms and today made the game available again to Android users.

The ice between the two companies thawed with a settlement reached over allegations that the Play Store restricted user choices and was monopolizing the market. This new agreement aims to create a freer environment for developers in the Android ecosystem. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney stated that Google’s offer, submitted for court approval, was quite impressive.
Sweeney emphasized that the new era will strengthen Android’s open platform vision. The focus of the agreement is; The agreement includes easier installation of different app stores on Android devices, reduced developer service fees, and the acceptance of third-party payment systems. This offers a more comprehensive solution, unlike other platforms that only allow limited competition on the payment side.
Positive messages have also come from Google. Android manager Sameer Samat stated that they aim to offer developers more flexibility without compromising security. Under the agreement, Google has agreed to reduce the standard commission rate to 20%, and in some cases as low as 9%, depending on the transaction type. Thus, Fortnite’s return to the Play Store is not just the return of a game, but also a shift in the balance of the mobile app market.
