Huawei has begun rolling out a new HarmonyOS update for the Mate 80 series. This update, version 6.0.0.120 SP9, primarily focuses on camera performance, Gallery features, cross-device sharing, and system navigation.
Camera Improvements and New Color Settings
A large part of the update revolves around camera-related changes. Huawei states that shooting in movie effects and moon modes has been optimized, providing better stability when capturing moving objects. While dynamic photo stabilization is adjusted, the Red Maple camera system now uses updated color settings in certain scenes, improving results from telephoto and wide-angle lenses.
In the Gallery app, a new option has been added that allows users to keep photos stored in the cloud while only deleting them from the device. This feature aims to free up local storage space without removing backups. Additionally, Gallery desktop cards now support subtle dynamic effects, and a new custom album card allows multiple photos to be selected for playback from the home screen.
Huawei is also expanding Huawei Share support. Mate 80 devices can now send photos, videos, files, and contacts to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices. The only requirement is that the recipient device has Huawei’s HarmonyOS Galaxy Interconnect app installed. Setup details are listed in the Help and Feedback section.
Privacy controls have also been updated. Users can now limit apps’ access to device navigation data to help prevent “shaking” actions that can trigger unwanted ad redirects. This setting is located under Privacy and Security.
On the system side, the update introduces Outdoor Exploration Mode, which adds gesture shortcuts for multitasking, quick app switching, split screen, and floating windows. Huawei also notes general performance and stability improvements.
