Samsung had already captured the attention of the tech world in 2025 with the ultra-thin design of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, initial leaks suggest the South Korean giant will shift its focus to the “Flip” series next year. According to new reports, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will come with much more radical updates compared to its predecessor, while the Fold 8 model may settle for a more conservative update that improves the existing design.
The Flip Series is Getting a Skin
This move aligns quite well with user expectations. While the Z Fold 7, with its 8.9 mm thickness when folded, now feels like a standard smartphone, the Flip 7 model is still 13.7 mm thick when folded. Samsung’s transfer of the structural revolutions used in the Fold 7 to the new Flip model will make the device much more attractive both aesthetically and ergonomically.
But will the thinner body sacrifice battery life? The leak source is confident about this:
“For the first time in years, a device will have a thinner body while maintaining or even increasing the current battery size.”
The thickness, especially when carried in a pocket, has been one of the biggest disadvantages of flip phones. Every millimeter of improvement in this area will directly increase the comfort of daily use.
Significant changes are on the horizon not only in design but also in hardware:
- Processor: The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to come with Samsung’s own Exynos 2600 chipset, which is also expected to be used in the Galaxy S26 series.
- Display Technology: Although details are not yet clear, the goal is to further reduce screen creasing, increase brightness, and optimize energy efficiency in foldable panels.
If there are no production delays, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2026, adhering to Samsung’s traditional schedule. Since we’re still at the beginning of the leak cycle, details may change over time, but the current picture suggests that Flip 8 will be an update “worth waiting for”.
