Microsoft’s commitment to bringing the Call of Duty series to the Nintendo Switch platform finally seems to be taking concrete steps. According to a new report, a Call of Duty game being developed for the Switch is very close to release. Industry sources indicate that the Switch version of the game is very close to completion.
Microsoft keeps its promise: Call of Duty Switch is counting down the days
Renowned reporter Jez Corden stated that the first CoD Switch version is almost finished, suggesting the game could be released “within a few months.” However, in a later post, Corden added that the release date might not be so soon, with the game reportedly on track for 2026. The development process is said to have “passed significant stages,” confirming that the game is progressing smoothly.

Currently, it remains unclear whether this game will be a port of an existing game like Black Ops 7 or Warzone, or a completely new title. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer stated in 2022 that technical adjustments were needed for the game to run on the Switch. Since then, Nintendo’s release of the more powerful Switch 2 may have eased these technical hurdles.
Microsoft announced in 2023 that it had signed a 10-year legal settlement with Nintendo players. This agreement guarantees that games will be released on the same day as on Xbox, with full feature and content equality. An Activision spokesperson also reiterated their commitment to bringing the series to Switch in June 2025.
If the game is indeed coming, the most likely date for the official announcement is thought to be the Xbox Developer Direct event in January 2026. Activision has bypassed Nintendo platforms for over a decade. The last main game to come to the Nintendo console was Call of Duty: Ghosts, released for Wii U in 2013. After years of absence, the return of the series could be a major event.
Since acquiring Activision, Microsoft has continued to release the series on PlayStation simultaneously with Xbox and PC. After years of waiting, experiencing a competitive FPS on the Nintendo platform could be exciting. What are your thoughts? Would you prefer to play the Call of Duty series on a portable console?
