Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” one of the most anticipated films in cinematic history. Adapted from Homer’s immortal epic poem, the Odyssey, the film is set to be released on July 17, 2026.
A new film from Christopher Nolan is coming
This project, one of the highest-budget projects of Nolan’s career, is reported to have cost over $250 million. Described as an epic adventure, the film offers a storyline faithful to the original text.
The film’s cast brings together some of Hollywood’s most prominent names. Matt Damon plays Odysseus, while the star-studded cast also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Samantha Morton, and Zendaya.
Christopher Nolan, continuing his tradition of avoiding digital visual effects (CGI), filmed the movie on massive sets built in real locations. It was even revealed that the one-eyed giant character, one of the story’s most iconic elements, was portrayed using a specially developed mechanical puppet instead of computer-generated design.
The Odyssey marks a first in cinematic history. Nolan shot the entire film using next-generation IMAX cameras, becoming the first director to record a production of this scale entirely in this format.
The filming techniques, prioritizing visual depth and realism, ensure the epic atmosphere is conveyed on screen in the highest resolution. With its large budget, star-studded cast, and production adhering to traditional filmmaking methods, the film is set to take its place in theaters as one of the most ambitious productions of 2026.
