Google continues to develop its AI-based note-taking and research assistant, NotebookLM. While it hasn’t achieved the same download numbers as other Google apps on the Play Store, its innovative features have made it one of the most talked-about tools in the tech world. In particular, the Voice Overview feature, which transforms documents into a voice conversation, is now preparing for a much more comprehensive update.
AI will teach your notes as a voice lesson
According to the latest leaked information, Google is preparing to add a new mode called “Lesson Format” to the Voice Overview feature within NotebookLM. This new option, which will be added alongside existing modes like In-Depth Review or Summary, will transform the resources you upload into a comprehensive AI lesson. Unlike other modes, in this format, a single AI server will explain the topic in detail to the user, as if it were a teacher.
The new feature will also allow users to set the lesson duration. In addition to the default duration, different time options will be offered: Short and Long. According to leaked screenshots, when the Long option is selected, the AI will deliver a detailed lesson lasting approximately 30 minutes. Additionally, a dedicated language selector has been added to the interface, allowing users to choose the language in which they want to listen to the lesson.
While there’s no official statement from Google yet, it’s confirmed that this feature is under development. The Lesson format, currently in the testing phase, is expected to be released to the general public in early next year. Users are most curious whether this advanced feature will be available to all users or only to NotebookLM Ultra subscribers. For now, Google remains silent on this matter.
So, would you prefer listening to a lesson from AI instead of reading your notes? Would this feature change your learning habits? Share your thoughts in the comments!
