Nothing, the technology company known for its innovative designs, has shifted gears after a brief pause in its software development. The company has begun rolling out the Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 interface to its budget-friendly sub-brand CMF models. The rollout, previously suspended due to issues with some devices, has restarted after bug fixes, covering the CMF Phone 1 and CMF Phone 2 Pro models.
Rollout Begins for CMF Phone 1 and 2 Pro
According to the official announcement, the update wave has begun today for CMF Phone 1 users. CMF Phone 2 Pro owners will have to wait a few weeks to receive this new version. The phased rollout aims to reach all users within a few days. With this move, Nothing has kept its promise to bring the latest Android version to its affordable devices before the end of the year.
The final device in the company’s update schedule will be the Nothing Phone 3a. The announcement states that this device will receive the Nothing OS 4.0 update in early January. With this update, Nothing will have upgraded its entire existing device portfolio to the new Android 16-based software, completing the general rollout process.
This released package marks the last major operating system update for the CMF Phone 1 model. The newer member of the series, the CMF Phone 2 Pro, is receiving its first major update. This device, which comes with a three-year Android update guarantee, is planned to be supported up to Android 18 and receive security patches for a total of six years. Nothing OS 4.0 offers users smoother animations and in-depth customization options.
