Developer Maxis has provided a crucial update on The Sims future, addressing fan concerns following the potential acquisition of Electronic Arts. In a recent blog post, the studio clarified its roadmap, reassuring players about the series’ core values and revealing new project details.
Addressing Concerns About The Sims Future and Inclusivity
The news of EA’s potential acquisition by a consortium involving Saudi investors sparked fear among the fanbase, particularly regarding censorship. The Sims has long been a pioneer in LGBTQIA+ representation, and players worried that this freedom could be restricted under new ownership.
However, Maxis delivered a clear response to these fears. The studio emphasized that its creative control and commitment to inclusivity remain unchanged. “The Sims has always been more than just a game. Our values of inclusivity, choice, and creativity will continue to guide us,” the statement read. They affirmed the game will stay true to its “your life, your rules” motto.

Project Rene and Mobile Platform Plans
The development team also shared exciting details about new projects. “Project Rene,” previously introduced as a next-generation game, is now defined as a “mobile-first” life simulation. This new title will offer an experience completely separate from The Sims 4.
Furthermore, Maxis confirmed that The Sims Mobile will be shut down in 2026. This move is seen as a strategy to clear the stage for Project Rene. The studio, which has previously stated they are not developing The Sims 5, remains committed to single-player experiences and will continue to develop The Sims 4 with new features tested via “The Sims Labs.”
