Apple is reportedly preparing for a significant strategic change regarding the future of Siri. According to information from Bloomberg, the tech giant is considering running its next-generation chatbot not on its own servers, but on Google’s cloud infrastructure. This potential move to host Siri on Google Cloud marks a major departure from the company’s long-standing “Private Cloud Compute” policy.
Why Apple is Considering Siri on Google Cloud
Recent reports indicate that Apple plans to transform Siri into a far more advanced conversational AI with the release of iOS 27. To achieve this, the company is said to be in discussions with Google. If this collaboration materializes, Apple would leverage Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), which are specifically designed for demanding artificial intelligence workloads. Consequently, this signals a potential shift from Apple’s traditional approach of processing user requests on-device or on its own custom hardware.
However, near-term improvements for Siri, expected in the upcoming iOS 26.4 update, will likely continue to operate on Apple’s current systems. These updates will run on the company’s own privacy-focused servers, which are built on high-performance Mac chips. This existing system ensures that data is processed temporarily and remains inaccessible even to Apple, maintaining a secure environment.
Addressing User Privacy and Data Security
The more advanced Siri chatbot planned for a later date is expected to rely on a highly capable language model developed by Google. This new model, internally referred to as Apple Foundation Models version 11, is said to be competitive with Google’s own Gemini models. Running such a large-scale model could strain Apple’s existing infrastructure, creating the need for Google’s extensive cloud capacity.
While the possibility of Siri requests being processed on Google’s servers raises questions about user data security, it does not necessarily mean Google would have access to the data. Apple already partners with third-party providers, including Google, for certain parts of its iCloud infrastructure. In these arrangements, the company maintains full control over encryption keys and data policies, ensuring user privacy remains protected.
