Digital Chat Station, a highly reliable industry source, has shared technical schematics and architectural details for MediaTek’s next beast: the Dimensity 9600. It appears the Taiwanese giant is bringing a radical core restructuring rather than just a speed bump.
A Global First: TSMC 2nm N2P Process
The Dimensity 9600 is set to be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm (N2P) fabrication process, a milestone for the mobile industry. This node promises up to a 10% performance increase and significant power savings compared to current 3nm technology. This move will position MediaTek head-to-head with Apple’s upcoming A20 series. However, the true innovation lies within the chip’s core configuration.
The “Canyon” Architecture: A 2+3+3 Revolution
For the first time in the Dimensity 9 series, the traditional single “prime” core layout is being replaced by a dual-prime core architecture. Internally codenamed “Canyon,” this new CPU arrangement is structured as follows:
- 2 Prime Cores: Based on ARM’s next-generation Cortex-C2 architecture, these will handle the heaviest workloads.
- 3 Performance Cores: Optimized for sustained high-performance tasks.
- 3 Efficiency Cores: Designed to preserve battery life during background operations.
This “2+3+3” structure is a first in MediaTek’s history. The dual-prime strategy aims to prevent bottlenecks during heavy AI modeling, 8K video processing, and console-quality mobile gaming.
Graphics Breakthrough: “Neural Shader” Technology
MediaTek isn’t stopping at raw CPU power; the graphics department will feature the Mali-G2 Ultra GPU. Leaks suggest the chipset will introduce “Neural Network Shader” technology. This innovation optimizes coordination between the GPU and NPU (Neural Processing Unit), sharing tasks like image upscaling and frame generation between the two units. The result is expected to be higher FPS in games with significantly lower device temperatures.

The timeline for the Dimensity 9600 is becoming clear. MediaTek is expected to hold an official unveiling in September 2026, potentially beating Qualcomm to the punch.
