A new series of render images belonging to Sony’s upcoming new flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VIII, has been leaked. Shared by MyMobiles and offering the clearest view of the device to date, these images are claimed to be based on the final CAD data used by Sony suppliers.
Classic Sony Screen Design is Preserved
When we look at the front, we see that Sony preserves its familiar long and narrow screen format. Although previous leaks suggested that we could see a punch-hole camera design on the device, the new images eliminate this possibility.

The front camera is integrated into the top bezel, next to the earpiece, just like in previous generations. It is stated that the bezel thickness will remain the same as the previous model, the Xperia 1 VII, and the device will most likely come with a 6.5-inch OLED screen again.
Growing Dimensions and New Square Camera Module
According to leaked data, the Xperia 1 VIII will have a slightly wider and thicker structure compared to its predecessor. The general dimensions and design details of the device are listed as follows:
-
General Dimensions: 161.9 x 74.4 x 8.58 mm
-
Camera Bump: The new square camera island, which is the most striking change on the back of the phone, significantly increases the thickness of the device. It is said that the device will reach 11.37 mm at its thickest point (camera module). This value indicates a structure approximately 2 mm thicker than the Xperia 1 VII.
Larger Sensors on the Way
Why is Sony switching to a thicker camera module? According to previous rumors, the main reason for this massive design change is to make room for much larger lenses than those found in the Xperia 1 VII. It is rumored that the company will fit highly advanced hardware into this new module, including a brand-new telephoto sensor in the 1/3″ to 1/2″ size range.
The launch schedule of the device is expected to proceed similarly to last year’s model. Leaks indicate that the phone will be officially introduced in May and will take its place on the shelves starting from June.
