ASELSAN Launches Europe’s Largest Air Defense Facility in Oğulbey
ASELSAN, the premier force in the Turkish defense industry, has officially commenced work on the Oğulbey facility in Ankara, a monumental project set to become Europe’s largest air defense production center. Announced as a major strategic investment, the project carries a total budget of 1.5 billion dollars, marking it as the largest single-instance investment in the history of the Turkish Republic’s defense sector. According to ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol, the state-of-the-art campus will integrate advanced production lines with cutting-edge quantum technology infrastructure, positioning Türkiye as a leader in future-proof aerial defense capabilities.

The scale of the Oğulbey project is unprecedented, covering a total area of 6,500 decares, which is equivalent to approximately 900 football pitches. The facility’s perimeter measures 20 kilometers, reflecting the massive industrial footprint required to support modern warfare technologies. 
Rather than functioning solely as a factory, the campus is designed as an integrated ecosystem. It will house dedicated testing grounds, specialized training centers, and advanced research and development units. By centralizing the entire lifecycle of a defense product—from conceptual design to final delivery—ASELSAN aims to drastically reduce lead times. Akyol stated that this strategic consolidation will allow the company to scale its production capacity by two to four times, ensuring that both domestic inventory requirements and export commitments are met with high efficiency.
Steel Dome Architecture Defines Future Operations
A primary objective of the Oğulbey facility is to provide the necessary industrial backbone for the “Steel Dome,” Türkiye’s multi-layered air defense network. The Steel Dome architecture relies on the seamless coordination of various radars, missile systems, and electronic warfare assets under a unified command-and-control umbrella. 
The Oğulbey hub will ensure the rapid manufacturing of complex electronic components required for national security.
The production lines in Oğulbey will focus on a wide array of high-tech hardware, including sophisticated radar systems, electronic warfare solutions, and electro-optical sensors. These systems are essential for maintaining air superiority and protecting national airspace against diverse threats. Notably, the high-precision electro-optical systems developed here will be integrated not only into ground-based platforms but also into advanced air assets such as the KAAN fighter jet and the KIZILELMA unmanned combat aerial vehicle.
