Baykar and T3 Foundation Unveil T3 Gemstone O1 Development Board

Baykar and the Turkey Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation) have officially introduced the T3 Gemstone O1, a high-performance development board engineered specifically for autonomous and unmanned systems. Unveiled during the TEKNOFEST Mavi Vatan event, this platform integrates artificial intelligence acceleration, flight control systems, and advanced image processing capabilities into a single, compact architecture. By consolidating functions that previously required multiple electronic boards, the T3 Gemstone O1 aims to streamline the development process for unmanned aerial, land, and sea vehicles. According to T3 Foundation Embedded Software Engineer Mehmet Akif Erdem, the device has successfully completed all necessary testing phases and has now transitioned into serial production.
- The T3 Gemstone O1 integrates AI acceleration, flight control, and image processing into one platform.
- The board features a 4 TOPS artificial intelligence accelerator capable of real-time object tracking.
- Serial production of the unit has already commenced following successful performance evaluations.
- The platform supports open-source software and is intended for use by students and professional developers alike.
This new hardware reduces the complexity of autonomous systems by eliminating the need for excessive wiring and redundant circuit boards.
Flight Control and AI Capabilities Merge on One Board
The primary objective behind the design of the T3 Gemstone O1 is to provide a unified architecture for the diverse processing and control units found in modern robotics. In addition to managing sensor data and flight dynamics, the board serves as a central hub for complex AI-driven tasks. A standout feature is the 4 TOPS AI accelerator, which performs up to 4 trillion operations per second. This power allows developers to execute real-time image processing and sophisticated navigation algorithms directly on the hardware without relying on cloud computation.
Hardware Versatility Allows for System Expansion
Rather than providing a rigid, closed system, the developers designed the T3 Gemstone O1 with an extensible architecture. Users can leverage the integrated M.2 slot to attach additional AI accelerators or high-speed NVMe SSD storage, tailoring the system to specific project requirements. Under the hood, the board is powered by the Texas Instruments AM67A processor, complemented by four Cortex-A53 cores and an IMG BXS-4-64 GPU. With 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32 GB of eMMC storage, the platform provides a robust foundation for demanding technical applications.
Integrated Components Simplify System Design
The T3 Gemstone O1 incorporates critical sensors directly onto the PCB to minimize the hardware footprint. It features a 9-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), a barometer, and CAN FD communication support, which are essential for stable flight and reliable data exchange in autonomous vehicles.
Furthermore, the board includes a wide array of connectivity options such as Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, HDMI, and a Raspberry Pi-compatible 40-pin GPIO header, ensuring compatibility with a vast ecosystem of peripherals.
Students Benefit from Accessible Technology
The T3 Foundation emphasizes that this board is not exclusively for industrial use. By adopting an open-source approach, the organization intends to provide students and TEKNOFEST participants with professional-grade tools to foster innovation. The board is supported by a dedicated Linux distribution and the ‘Gem Imager’ tool, simplifying the deployment process. Furthermore, its integration with ArduPilot allows it to function seamlessly as a primary flight computer for autonomous projects.
