Baseten Valuation Set to Hit $30 Billion in New $2B Funding Round

The Baseten valuation is set to more than double to $30 billion as the AI inference startup raises about $2 billion, Bloomberg reports.

The Baseten valuation is set to more than double to about $30 billion. The AI inference startup is raising roughly $2 billion in a new funding round, Bloomberg reported on October 30, 2026, citing people familiar with the plans.

The round is split into two tranches with different prices. The first values the San Francisco company at $26 billion, and the second at $30 billion. Existing investor Sands Capital is expected to lead the deal, according to the report. The terms are not final and Baseten has not announced the round.

Baseten Valuation Jumps From $13 Billion in Four Months

The new price would be a sharp step up from June, when Baseten raised $1.5 billion at a $13 billion valuation. That means the company’s value could more than double in roughly four months, one of the fastest climbs among AI infrastructure startups this year.

Founded in 2019, Baseten sells the software and computing capacity that companies use to deploy and run AI models in production. Its earlier backers include Altimeter Capital, IVP and Spark Capital.

Why Investors Are Betting on AI Inference

Baseten works on inference, the step where a trained model answers user requests, rather than training the model in the first place. Every chatbot reply, coding agent task or image generation is an inference job, so demand grows with usage, not just with the number of new models being built.

Investors increasingly see inference as the larger long-term market as businesses roll out AI apps and autonomous agents. Chipmakers are chasing the same demand, as shown when Nvidia Blackwell GPUs cut DeepSeek V4 inference costs fivefold earlier this year.

A Big Raise in a Nervous AI Market

The timing stands out. AI stocks have been selling off, and other large rounds are getting smaller. OpenAI has cut its own target, with its OpenAI funding round shrinking to $20 billion at a $1.25 trillion valuation after some investors trimmed commitments.

Debt markets are also tighter for AI infrastructure. The Wall Street Journal reported that cloud providers CoreWeave, Nebius and Nscale have effectively been shut out of the bond market in recent weeks as lenders demand tougher terms. At the same time, Big Tech AI spending has topped $3 trillion, which keeps demand for computing capacity high.

    What It Means

If the round closes as described, Baseten would join the small group of AI infrastructure startups valued above $25 billion. The two-tranche structure lets early money come in at a lower price while later investors pay the full $30 billion, a sign that backers still want exposure to inference demand but are more careful about price than they were earlier in the AI boom.
