Apple’s long-held obsession with the Lightning port is no longer an obstacle thanks to an innovative accessory developed by an engineer. Swiss engineer Ken Pillonel, who previously made a name for himself with his hardware modifications to the iPhone, has now unveiled a product that brings older iPhone models into the future with a single case.
A Case That Brings Life to Older iPhones
Robotics engineer Ken Pillonel, who captured the attention of the tech world by installing a USB-C port directly into an iPhone X in 2021, has taken his project a step further. Launched under the Obsoless brand, the new accessory allows you to add a fully functional USB-C port to your iPhone without touching it, simply by attaching a specially designed case.
This innovative product consists of a custom circuit board and USB-C connector integrated into a two-piece snap-on case. The case precisely connects to the phone’s Lightning port, providing all the following features without any loss:
- 9V Fast Charging Support
- Uninterrupted Data Transfer
- Full Apple CarPlay Compatibility
In a video where Pillonel shares how he overcame the technical challenges he encountered during the product’s development process, he also emphasizes the case’s practicality. Thanks to a special locking system inspired by the click mechanism of ballpoint pens and belt buckles, the case can be securely attached and locked to the phone without the need for any tools. Furthermore, this clever design is fully compatible with MagSafe accessories.
