A remarkable initiative is being launched against Google and Apple’s dominance over app stores. A group of companies led by Meta and Spotify have formed an alliance called the “Competitive Mobile Experience Coalition.” The coalition will fight against the dominance of the two tech giants over app ecosystems.
A coalition has been formed against the Google and Apple monopoly
The coalition’s primary agenda will be to shift the responsibility for age verification from developers to platform providers. This demand is supported by a law enacted in the state of Utah in particular. The law in question requires app stores to directly conduct age verification processes.

Google, on the other hand, immediately reacted to this initiative. The company claims that Meta is trying to evade its obligations under the COPPA law, which protects children’s online privacy. However, the coalition’s agenda is not limited to age verification.
The group demands that Apple and Google not systematically prioritize their own apps and services, allow users to be directed to alternative payment methods, and create fair competition conditions against rival software and hardware.
The coalition’s formation coincided with a court ruling that invalidated Apple’s App Store policies in its ongoing lawsuit with Epic Games. The court found it unlawful for the company to block users from using alternative payment systems.
This move by Meta, Spotify, and other tech companies could herald a radical change in the mobile app market. What do you think about this? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
