Minecraft, one of the most popular games of all time, still continues to be played by fans today in various ways. The news that came to light today is about a developer on Reddit who managed to adapt the Minecraft Launcher to work on the Windows 98 operating system. Here are the details.
Minecraft Adapted for Windows 98
Even after 30 years, there are still many fans of Windows 95 and 98 versions. Every year, different experiments are conducted for these operating systems, and today, a Reddit post showed that a developer has adapted Minecraft for Windows 98.
The user named jtofexstinction announced in a post under the Windows 98 topic that they had developed a Minecraft Launcher compatible with Windows 98. Developed using C++, Minecraft appears to be specifically tailored for Windows 98, and users who tried it believe it truly feels like it was designed for that era.
Although it’s possible to run Minecraft on Windows 98, due to the outdated system and updates, if you have a Pentium 3 and GeForce 3, you can play Minecraft version 1.5.2 or earlier without issues. It’s even reported that you can reach 20 FPS with a Voodoo 3 GPU.
To play versions 1.8.9 or newer, Java 8 needs to be integrated into Windows 98, which could cause some issues. The game’s interface is simplified, and the fonts have been updated to reflect the period of that time.
