Google is gearing up to introduce its Pixel 8 series at the Made by Google event on October 4th. Numerous reports about these smartphones have surfaced in recent times, leaving little doubt about what kind of experience they will offer. Today, a new report suggests that smartphones will come with an unprecedented detail in the industry that will likely be well-received by users.
7 years update support for Google Pixel 8 series
Lately, phone manufacturers like Samsung have revisited their software support policies, especially for their mid-range and flagship models, extending support for them. According to recent reports, Google is also joining these companies in this endeavor.
According to sources close to the company, Google is preparing to provide operating system and security updates for the Pixel 8 series for a whopping seven years. If the rumors are true, these devices will be supported up to Android 21.
Until now, Google’s software support for its phones was limited to a maximum of three years. In fact, not long ago, the Pixel 4a, released in August 2020, lost software support after just three years. However, it seems that this is about to change, and Google’s smartphones will run the latest software versions for an extended period.
For a quick comparison, Apple’s iPhone XR, introduced in 2018, has been receiving uninterrupted software support for five years, and it has even started experiencing the recently released iOS 17. Similarly, with its new policy, Samsung will provide uninterrupted update support for some of its new smartphones for five years.
