The balances are changing in the retail world. Amazon, one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies, surpassed Walmart for the first time in quarterly revenue and became the new leader of the industry. So how much money did the company earn? Here are the details…
Amazon overtook Walmart
Walmart, which has been at the top for years, fell behind Amazon for the first time in terms of quarterly revenue. The e-commerce giant overtook its rival, generating $ 187.8 billion in revenue in the last quarter. Walmart reported revenue of $ 180.5 billion in the same period.

Walmart, the company with the highest revenue in every quarter since 2012, had won this title by surpassing Exxon Mobil. However, according to the latest data, Amazon is gradually increasing its weight in the retail sector. Although Walmart is still the leader on an annual basis, the gap is closing rapidly.
According to analysts, Walmart is expected to generate $ 708.7 billion in revenue during the 2025 fiscal year, while Amazon’s annual revenue is estimated to reach $ 700.8 billion.
Amazon’s success is driven not only by e-commerce but also by additional business lines such as cloud computing, advertising and seller services. In particular, third-party seller services account for 24.5 per cent of the company’s total revenue, while Amazon Web Services (AWS) contributes 17 per cent.
Walmart, inspired by its rival, is trying to grow its own third-party marketplace, expand its logistics services and strengthen its Walmart+ service as a competitor to Amazon Prime. But for now, the scale of Amazon’s services is much larger than Walmart’s.
