Samsung and Google Rival Dolby Atmos: Eclipsa Audio
Eclipsa Audio will deliver an immersive 3D audio experience that allows users to fine-tune the direction, intensity and spatial reflections of sound. The new technology will be available on all Samsung televisions, from the Crystal UHD series to the Neo QLED 8K series. Eclipsa Audio-powered videos will also be available on YouTube.
Eclipsa Audio is based on the IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Format) standard developed by the Alliance for Open Media (AOM), which was approved in 2023. In short, Samsung and Google plan to break Dolby Atmos’ dominance in the industry.
Following the announcement of Eclipsa Audio technology, a certification program will be launched for devices with this technology. This program will be supported by Samsung, as well as Google and the Korea Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA). Videos supporting Eclipsa Audio technology will be available on YouTube from 2025. Therefore, it will offer an alternative that competes with Dolby Atmos-supported content.
In short, we can say that the technology, which will compete directly with Dolby Atmos, claims to offer consumers a more personalized and immersive audio experience. Do you think Eclipsa Audio can shake the throne of Dolby Atmos? You can share your comments below.
