An official announcement has been made for a sequel to The Social Network, the critically acclaimed film that recounts the story of Facebook’s founding. The film’s official title has been announced as The Social Reckoning, with a release date set for October 9, 2026. The sequel, written by David Fincher, will be directed by screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.
The Social Reckoning is Coming
The film will focus on the serious allegations made by former Facebook employee Frances Haugen as a whistleblower and the subsequent legal proceedings.

Haugen claimed that despite knowing that the company’s platforms were harming society, she prioritized money and high profits, refusing to intervene. She alleges that the company intentionally failed to intervene fully in many cases despite having the power to prevent them.
Actor Jeremy Strong, known for his performance in the TV series Succession, will play Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning. This sequel, which follows the first film starring Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield, also stars Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison.
Meanwhile, another film project focusing on the tech world has surfaced. Amazon is working on a film about the 2023 dismissal of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
