Dan Houser, one of the key figures behind the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, continues developing new projects with his own studio, Absurd Ventures, after leaving Rockstar Games. The studio, which has so far made headlines with a narrative podcast and an absurd promotional video, has finally announced its first major project. Absurdaverse: A Brand-New Universe
Absurd Ventures recently introduced its new universe, called Absurdaverse. The shared visuals suggest that this universe will feature 20 different characters, ranging from rebellious young individuals to professional adults, Vikings to zombies, and various fantastical creatures. According to a statement from the studio, players will “meet new heroes and witness their suffering.”
Absurd Ventures aims to go beyond being just a game studio, planning to create content across multiple mediums, including games, animation, graphic novels, and interactive experiences. The company intends to introduce this new IP through animation projects first, followed by a story-driven action-comedy adventure game. However, not many details about the game have been revealed yet.

Dan Houser, as one of the founders of Rockstar Games, played a critical role in the creation of the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series. Known as the lead writer of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, Houser left Rockstar in 2020 to focus on his own projects. In 2023, he founded Absurd Ventures with the goal of creating a completely new universe that could be adapted across different platforms.
While his former studio, Rockstar Games, prepares to launch Grand Theft Auto 6 at the end of the year, the release date for Dan Houser’s Absurdaverse project remains unknown. However, animation projects related to the universe are expected to be introduced sometime in 2024.
