The long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake is scheduled for release in January 2026, according to a new report from industry sources. This date is earlier than Ubisoft’s previously announced fiscal year schedule.
The Sands of Time is returning
The remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, originally released in 2003, was initially announced in 2020 as a joint effort between Ubisoft’s Mumbai and Pune studios. Two years later, development was transferred to the Ubisoft Montreal studio, which also created the original game.

In its May 2025 earnings report, Ubisoft stated that it planned to release the game in its fiscal year ending in March 2026. The new report expects the game to launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in mid-January 2026.
With this game, Ubisoft Montreal will release its first console game since 2022’s Roller Champions. During this period, the Canadian studio worked on projects such as Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, a 2023 Meta Quest exclusive, and Rainbow Six Mobile for mobile devices. The studio is also in development on a new Assassin’s Creed game, codenamed Project Hexe.
A major event is expected to officially announce the remake’s release date. The 2025 Game Awards, scheduled for December 11th, is expected to provide Ubisoft with a prime opportunity to officially announce this date.
The release date for the modernized version of The Sands of Time is expected to be announced at The Game Awards, one of the industry’s largest events, likely accompanied by a new gameplay trailer.
