TikTok, the world’s most used social media application, is now entering the search engine world. A new application was introduced for Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. The service called Douyin Search targets a new market in China.
Douyin (TikTok) Search introduced
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok and Douyin, has introduced a search engine that rivals brands like Google and Baidu. The new search application called Douyin Search was launched exclusively for China. Accordingly, the application aims to search, especially videos.
Douyin Search will utilize short videos published on Douyin, ByteDance’s video sharing platform in China. The new app will allow users to search for videos on Douyin from the home screen. It will also list trending videos in a format similar to TikTok’s interface.
Douyin Search will use ByteDance’s artificial intelligence operations for recommendations and search results. While the company has offered search apps many times before, this is the first time it has launched a service directly linked to TikTok.
The launch of Douyin Search will pose great competition for Baidu, China’s largest internet company. Baidu has remained the market leader in recent years despite increasing competition from brands such as Microsoft Bing and 360 Search.
Of course, Douyin Search will be exclusive to China for now. However, ByteDance may try TikTok Search in the global market with the help of this user data.
