The iconic voice behind numerous unforgettable characters in Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, Wes Johnson, is making a triumphant return in the developer’s latest blockbuster, Starfield.
According to a report from PC Gamer, Johnson lends his voice to Ron Hope, the enigmatic CEO of HopeTech. Hope is at the center of a side mission called “Where Hope Is Built,” sending players on a quest to apprehend a thief. For those interested in experiencing the mission, IGN’s Starfield guide provides in-depth details on how to locate and best navigate it.
Wes Johnson has a storied history with Bethesda, having voiced an array of characters that have become part of gaming folklore. He’s perhaps most recognized for his role as every member of the Imperial Watch in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, where his delivery of the line “Stop right there, criminal scum” became an instant classic. Johnson’s portfolio also includes voicing the Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in Oblivion, as well as three Daedric Princes (Boethiah, Malacath, and Molag Bal) in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. He also portrayed characters like Fawkes and Maister Burke in Fallout 3, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, and Moe Cronin in Fallout 4, among many others.
Starfield itself has experienced an explosive launch. Even before its official release date on September 6, the game was topping sales charts. Xbox’s Phil Spencer announced that over one million players were exploring the Starfield universe concurrently as soon as it launched.
This blockbuster release has generated a multitude of fan interactions and stories. From the morbid detail of Bethesda choosing to wipe out all labradors in Starfield’s universe to players ardently trying to recreate the game on PlayStation, the game is already developing a rich tapestry of lore and fan engagement.
In a recent review by IGN, Starfield was given a 7/10 rating. Despite admitting that the game faces various challenges, IGN concluded that its “expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist.”
As the Starfield universe expands, the inclusion of a veteran voice like Wes Johnson adds another layer of richness and familiarity that fans of Bethesda games will no doubt appreciate.
