The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence has attracted the attention of students since last year. ChatGPT has been preferred in many areas from homework to solving exams. Finally, a remarkable statement came from OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT.
AI detectors cannot understand text written with ChatGPT
In a new paper on the use of artificial intelligence in education, OpenAI officially acknowledged what many experts have long argued. AI detectors are unreliable, the company said, and ChatGPT-generated text is indistinguishable.
For those who don’t know, AI detectors detect whether a text is written by a human or an AI. OpenAI, on the other hand, stated that no AI detector can reliably distinguish the difference.
The company also canceled its own artificial intelligence detector in recent months. The artificial intelligence detector, which reached only 26 percent accuracy, aroused curiosity with its silent removal. However, the company believes that such attempts are futile.
OpenAI believes that even ChatGPT is not capable of determining whether a text is written by an AI or a human. But such tools can give themselves away with factual inaccuracies or grammatical errors.
The researchers want the use of AI in education to be regulated. Because tools like ChatGPT have the potential to provide false information, they can negatively affect students’ education.
