Microsoft announced the beginning of the era of AI PCs at its AI event today. Working with Intel, AMD and Qualcomm, the company officially introduced the Copilot+ PC platform. This will open a new chapter of artificial intelligence on Windows devices.
What is the Copilot+ PC platform?
Microsoft has been at the forefront of AI PC (artificially intelligent computer) studies for some time. Copilot, which was presented in this context, aimed to be an artificial intelligence assistant to users. Microsoft said that Windows devices developed by major companies will support the Copilot+ PC platform.
Microsoft said that major manufacturers such as Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Samsung and Lenovo will offer models in the Copilot+ series. The Copilot+ PC platform will be powered by processors with specialized neural network units (NPUs) for artificial intelligence operations.
Microsoft Consumer Marketing Manager Yusuf Mehdi said the Copilot+ PC will be available in “incredibly thin and light designs”. He even claimed that these systems would be 58 percent faster than the M2 MacBook Air.
However, since the new computers have not yet been released, it is not possible to see their actual performance. Microsoft’s partnership with Qualcomm will enable PCs with Snapdragon X Elite processors to run fully optimized with Copilot+.
The Copilot+ PC platform is expected to play a role in many aspects from battery to processor performance. Microsoft said that thanks to special optimizations, it will be possible to surf the web for up to 15 hours or play videos for up to 20 hours on a single charge.
