Kumru, the domestically produced artificial intelligence (AI), developed by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and introduced as Turkey’s next step in technology, became one of the most talked-about topics on social media after its launch. While the platform successfully answered many questions, its curious and inaccurate answers on some topics did not go unnoticed by users.
Why did Kumru become a trending topic?
Once it became available to users, technology enthusiasts immediately began testing Kumru. During these tests, some of the AI’s unusual answers, along with screenshots, quickly spread across social media. Importantly, this quickly brought Kumru to widespread recognition.

One of the most striking examples shared by users was the answer to the question, “Is Orhan Pamuk alive?” Kumru provided incorrect information by stating that the Nobel Prize-winning author was not alive. Additionally, users noticed errors such as pointing to another city when asked about the rooster associated with Denizli.
A significant step despite criticism.
Despite its flawed responses, experts emphasize that Kumru is a critical development in demonstrating Turkey’s competence in the field of artificial intelligence. Large language models like these constantly improve themselves based on user feedback and data acquired over time. Therefore, current errors are seen as learning opportunities for the project’s future.
