AI has become an indispensable tool in various fields, and one area where it shines is summarization. Large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT excel at compressing vast amounts of data and highlighting the most relevant parts. With numerous tools available, you can now summarize everything from YouTube videos to emails, long articles, or even hefty PDF documents.
Summarizing YouTube videos and more
Many of us enjoy watching detailed YouTube explainer videos, but sometimes we just need a quick overview. The Glairty extension can help by automatically summarizing YouTube videos, as long as they have a reliable transcript. Once installed and activated, Glairty processes the transcript in the background using ChatGPT, creating a summary for you.
Keep in mind that the extension requires logging into the OpenAI website and might need periodic authentication. To avoid this, you can sign up for OpenAI‘s “Pay as you go” account, get a set of API keys, and add them to Glarity settings. Although it won’t work for all videos, Glairty is ideal for summarizing explainer videos between 5-15 minutes long.
You can customize the summaries by adjusting the extension settings, choosing between bullet points, a general gist, or a detailed summary. Alternatively, you can use the YouTube Summary with ChatGPT extension by Glasp for a manual approach, allowing you to save conversations and ask follow-up questions.
Tackle long emails with AI summaries
AI can help us reach inbox zero by summarizing long emails that you never intended to read. Although Google has yet to bring significant AI features to Gmail, Shortwave is a Google Inbox-inspired app that offers one-click AI summaries using ChatGPT for both mobile apps and browsers.
During its beta period, Shortwave’s summary feature is free to use. Just click the Summary button in the top toolbar to generate a concise summary of any email. However, be cautious when using it for important messages, as the generative language model may overlook critical information.
