Airbnb, the most widely used accommodation application, is reevaluating its artificial intelligence policy. David Stephenson, one of the company’s top executives, stated that they are not a company focused on language algorithms, so they cannot play a proactive role in the field of artificial intelligence technology. Stephenson, advocating for focusing on their own expertise rather than becoming a chip manufacturer, mentioned that they have the chance to integrate this new technology into their work.
Can Airbnb catch the AI trend?
Stephenson, stating that they will evaluate the possibilities of artificial intelligence only to the extent that it will be beneficial for their business, expressed his belief that these possibilities can make a significant difference, especially in the user interface field. However, it remains a question how users will react to changing the interface that they have been using for a long time and have become accustomed to.
Acknowledging that there is much to improve in the interface field, the Airbnb executive admitted that their interfaces are starting to become primitive, while claiming that a personalized user interface through artificial intelligence technology would offer a much higher quality experience.
Despite increasing its revenue by 17% in the last quarter of 2023, Airbnb’s market value had decreased. However, in the latest official announcement stating that the company would start buying back its own shares, the share values started to rise again.
