Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa is undergoing a serious transformation as of 2025. With the company’s new service Alexa Plus, users’ concerns about data privacy have increased more than ever. This service changes many basic features without users’ consent and forces users to accept a system they do not want.
Alexa Plus has failed in terms of data privacy
Voice commands made via Alexa are now stored only in Amazon’s cloud system, not locally. This change eliminates the possibility of users’ daily conversations remaining directly on the device.

Amazon states that the processed data will be deleted later, but the fact that the process is not completely transparent creates serious questions on the user’s side. The fact that the device is always in listening mode poses the risk of partially or completely recording conversations.
In the new system, all voice interactions made via Alexa Plus are processed in the cloud, and users’ recording preferences directly affect the features they can access. If users do not want their voice recordings to be stored, they cannot benefit from Alexa’s personalized services.
For example, the ability to create a separate voice identity for each individual is only possible when recordings are open. This situation forces users to store data and directly eliminates the right to choose.
What is even more striking is that this service covers all Alexa device users, not just those with paid subscriptions. While the Alexa Plus service is offered free of charge for Amazon Prime subscribers, it comes for a monthly fee of $ 19.99 for other users.
However, since the system update is mandatory, users are forced to switch to the Alexa Plus system even if they do not pay a subscription. This means that the operating principles of the device are fundamentally changed without any approval from the user.
As a result, Alexa is no longer just a digital assistant, but also a platform restructured to extract more data from the user. So what do you think about this? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
