Although this release is only available on devices supporting Apple Intelligence, it contains many new features accessible to everyone once the full version of the software is released. The new features brought by Apple Intelligence, in particular, provide a more interactive and enjoyable experience compared to iOS 18.1. Here’s everything new in iOS 18.2.
New features with iOS 18.2!
iOS 18.2 introduces a series of features that bring more intelligence and interactivity through Apple Intelligence. This update stands out, especially with fun and creative tools like Image Playground and Genmoji. Here are some notable Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.2:
- Image Playground: This new app offers a platform where you can stylize images of yourself or friends with messaging integration. You can make adjustments based on themes or images you set.
- Image Wand: Integrated with the Notes app, Image Wand allows you to add visuals to your notes. Rough sketches drawn on iPad with Apple Pencil can be transformed into more polished images.
- Genmoji: This feature lets you create personalized emojis. Similar to Image Playground but at a smaller emoji size, Genmojis can only be created on iOS 18.2, though they are viewable on devices with iOS 18.1.
- Siri ChatGPT: With iOS 18.2, Siri can now direct your requests to ChatGPT. This feature is entirely user-controlled, doesn’t require an account, and seeks your permission to send each request. ChatGPT can provide more comprehensive information than Siri and can generate both text and visual content.
- Visual Intelligence: On iPhone 16, Visual Intelligence allows you to recognize objects and places around you. Press and hold the Camera Control button to access this feature, view restaurant reviews, copy texts, or even direct questions to ChatGPT.
- Writing Tools: No longer limited to three styles. You can define the tone or structure of your content, convert an email into a poem, or add more dynamic wording.
- Language Support: With iOS 18.2, Apple Intelligence becomes available in other English-speaking countries like the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Apple Arcade and Other Features
- Apple Arcade: A new pop-up filter menu has been added to the “All Games” section of Apple Arcade, with optional game previews.
- Mail App: iOS 18.2 brings new categories for important emails, agreements, newsletters, and transactional emails. Additionally, there’s a new view with larger images of contacts and businesses, consolidating all emails from the same sender.
- Voice Memos: Now you can layer two voice recordings on top of each other and edit those layers.
- EU – App Deletion: Users in the European Union can now delete core apps like App Store, Safari, Messages, Camera, and Photos.
- Default Apps: iOS 18.2 introduces a new “Default Apps” section under the “Apps” tab, allowing you to manage default apps like Email, Messaging, Calls, Browser, and Keyboard. In the EU, users can also select non-Apple options for search and messaging apps.
- Volume Limit: A new Volume Limit option has been added under Sound and Haptics in the Settings menu, allowing you to cap the output volume of your iPhone’s speakers.
Other Additions
- Safari: New options for managing website data and history in Settings, including import and export options.
- Podcasts: Categories can now be added to favorites in the Podcasts app.
- Sleep Apnea Notifications: Compatible Apple Watch models now support sleep apnea notifications.
