Amazon announced that it will end Appstore support on Android devices on 20 August 2025. Unfortunately, the details published on the Support FAQ page did not give any details about the reasons for this decision.
It was said that the platform will still continue to be used on Amazon Fire TV and Tablet devices. It was stated that the store will continue to serve as the default marketplace for applications on these devices.
Amazon Appstore is saying goodbye soon
Applications downloaded from the Amazon Appstore to Android devices will continue to work, at least for now. However, after 20 August, they will no longer receive updates. Amazon will not provide users with a guarantee that they will work properly.

This significant development comes as Microsoft prepares to end Amazon Appstore support on Windows from 5 March as part of its strategy to phase out the Android subsystem.
With the closure of the Android app store, Amazon is also terminating the Amazon Coins programme. This service is known as a virtual currency that users can purchase to buy apps and in-app items through the Appstore.
After 20 February 2025, it will not be possible to buy new coins. However, existing balances can be used until 20 August. After this date, all remaining coins will be returned to our users.
Given that Amazon’s Fire OS is based on Android, closing the Appstore on Android may seem like an interesting decision. However, the Android Appstore has always played a marginal role in the Amazon ecosystem.
Initially, it allowed users to ‘try out’ Android apps in their web browser and offered a programme that provided free versions of apps. It also came pre-installed on Amazon’s failed Fire phone.
